SELF PORTRAITS THAT DELIGHT, PORTRAITS THAT SPEAK OF QUALITY OF ART

Cuno Amiet is a Swiss artist who we got to know in the 1980s from his sales with Sothebys and Christies. The renewed interest in the artist over the last few years has culminated with sales of his art of the 1900s reaching the three million pounds and promising better prices.

A genuine talent, Amiet found himself in Munich, Paris and Pont Aven mixing with the masters of Impressionism and portraying the life of Brittany as well as Switzerland. His latest art performance, exhibitions of his work indicate a renewed interest in an important artist, who the establishment of Swiss art somewhat ignored to a good degree since his death in 1961. Breaking the three million pounds barrier for a work of 1900, Amiet entered the category of artists selling over the million pounds and promising further.

Among many interesting facts about his work is his series of portraits of himself and the people around him. Self portraits are accomplished works that have become very popular with art collectors as well people he met or people of his immediate circle.

We are fascinated by the work he always did in preparing for oil paintings. Either in pencil, ink or watercolour this essential work for this artist is now becoming essential in understanding how this great Swiss painter operated and worked.

Switzerland is his home but works of his appear here and there and in general they are bargains to be had, even though the Swiss collectors are after them all over the globe!
