AMIET’S MUM AND CHILD IN FIELD SELLS FOR 3.3 MILLION SWISS FRANKS
I have been following world sales and movements of art prices of many countries for years. I had Amiet’s name as one to watch and have in my investment agenda since the 1980s. I once failed to buy, I was the underbidder, a magnificent, large size Segantini at Christies, another Swiss artist who is considered a master in Switzerland.
It looks more than a certainty that Amiet’s work is very popular and in certain cases with his early 20th century work a must to have for Swiss collectors. Paying large sums of money for his work is common now but the 3.3 million Swiss franks paid for his Mother and Child in a flowered field at Kornfeld auctions broke the records for the artist.
It seems that an investment in a collection of works by Amiet might turn out to be a good one after all. Was that investment a bargain?
