OUR ART, THE SOUL OF FREEDOM
COSTAS COULENTIANOS, “Ode to Freedom”
We fervently believe that ART is a tool to express the deepest feelings of humans via images that connect the brain, to heart and soul. Our policy developed over forty years of collecting and that we see as our strength to stand up for humanity at a time when the basic HUMAN RIGHTS OF FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY are trampled by the vary people we voted to govern us in the Western World. Unfortunately that is happening right now with no exception and in a way that makes us all look into the future with no hope for democracy, for freedom, unless we all fight for these great ideals!
FROM THE DEPTHS OF OCCUPATION IN GREECE, FROM THE EXPERIENCES OF NAZISM AND TORTURE COMES THE WORK OF COSTAS COULENTIANOS (1918-1995), A SCULPTOR WHO MADE INROADS AND INFLUENCED EUROPEAN ART LIKE VERY FEW ARTISTS MANAGED TO DO WITH THEIR WORK in the second half of the 20th century. EVEN THOUGH ABSTRACT IN LOOKS, THIS IS A WORK THAT ELEVATES THE SPIRIT TO HIGHER IDEALS AND SPIRITUAL THINKING OF FREEDOM.
WE TILTE THE WORK “ODE TO FREEDOM” EVEN THOUGH MOST PEOPLE CATALOGUE COULENTIANOS WORK AS ABSTRACT IN GENERAL, AS HE NEVER TITLED HIS WORK OR EVEN SIGNED IT HIMSELF.
OUR STRUGGLES TO FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY IN OUR WORLD CANNOT BE BETTER EXPRESSED THAN IN THIS 1988 SCULPTURE OF COULENTIANOS!!!
