WE IDENTIFY BARGAINS AT AUCTIONS BUT CANNOT NAME HUNDREDS OF THEM, CAN WE?

WAS IT A BARGAIN OR NOT?

The existence of this side and the collection of greeksinart has its origins on bargains acquired at auction and resold at a good profit. If you are interested to see how it happened, you need to read my book Rags or Riches.

The purpose of this entry is to refer to new bargains and new chases of bargains that are happening right now and I am personally involved. There are many around and I am chasing a couple tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. I will have news come Thursday, which will be communicated in my finished blog come Thursday or Friday.

Join me again for good news or disappointing developments……..

UPDATE 20TH OCTOBER 2022

Muly Dey, from £300-500 to 42,000 hammer &commissions sale

As I promised, I was going to write about the bargains I tried to buy at small auctions. I was hopeful but experience taught me differently and especially these days of the internet.

To start with I was interested in a small watercolour of Greek content on 19th October. At 100-200 pounds estimate, I believed at 200 pounds I would manage to get it but it sold at £400 plus 25% commissions. No luck, but hope still alive for 20th October sale in a small provincial auction sale.

Nothing prepared me for the auction sale of the watercolour by Mukyl Dey, an Indian artist I felt was worth a lot more than the estimate 300-500 pounds. Thus I was ready to bid about 2000 plus commissions but the sale started and already there was a bid of 4400 pounds. In the blink of an eye the price went to 10,000 and before long there was a prolonged battle between two bidders resulting in a hammer price sale of 35000 pounds plus 24% commissions.

My hopes were dashed and my search for that bargain continues as I was also the under-bidder on a small watercolour of a Dutch artist in the same auction. No luck!!!
