UNSOLD ART MIGHT BE A BLESSING!!!

DO NOT DISPAIR IF YOUR ART FAILED TO REACH ITS RESERVE AND EXPECTATIONS

OTTI BY CUNO AMIET

I have advised my readers on many occasions and sales prove that abundantly; A work of art, Fine Art in this case is not

BURNT BECAUSE IT FAILED TO SELL ONCE OR TWICE  AT AUCTION!!!

The case I am pointing out today and discuss is happening daily. Also in this case, a bigger auction failed to sell this painting but a smaller one managed to sell it and also and more importantly sell the painting at double the money it was estimated earlier.

THUS, KEEP FAITH AND HOPE THAT YOUR FINE ART WILL HAVE ADMIRERS IN THE FUTURE

What has happened in the case of portrait of Otti by Amiet can possible be attributed to two main reasons. When it was offered for sale at Christies in December 2016 the market was not right and secondly the second time it sold very well as a reappraisal of the artist’s work has happened. Perhaps and it is my guess cash money today is not a means to increase your wealth when kept in a bank doing nothing.

Cuno Amiet, Portrait of Otti failed to sell at £140,000 in December 2016.

The same painting appeared at Kornfeld Auctions in Switzerland this June 2022 and it sold for £304,000 plus commissions.

We advise all our readers to be optimistic when selling art. It might be for various reasons  a piece remained unsold or ignored by the buyers. It might reappear at auction, all things being right, and sell at a better price. Live in hope, enjoy as much as you can your art and art never rots away like fresh food especially when the artist in question is a name the nation he/she comes from appreciates and invests in his name!!! As it happens Amiet is one of the top artists of Switzerland of the years 1890 to 1960.
